TraveltourQueen The United states embassy in Nigeria recently announced that certain Nigerians are now eligible to request for Us Visa Interview waiver, that is they do not appear physically for an interview, but rather submit their passports instead (Drop box) and get their visas renewed. The service became available in Lagos consulate in February 2022 and will soon become available in Abuja too. The following tips will be helpful to guide you through the process.
- Who is eligible: Whoever has been issued a Us visa in (B1/B2, F1/F2,C1, D, J,M,H,L)in the past , the visa must be valid, the visa expired than 24months or the visa has less than 3 months to expire. The visa renewal must also be in the same category as the previous one issued. That is B1 for B1/B2 and not F1.The applicant must not have been rejected from the time of the visa issuance, had a visa revoked or requested for a waiver. The applicant must have abided by the terms of the issued visa, not exceeded the permitted stay in US, worked without authorization, engaged in criminal or illegal activities.
- Update your Cgi Profile and complete the Ds 160:You are required to update your Cgi profile, ensure the provided information is correct, input the mrv receipt to confirm your appointment. Also you can use a previous DS 160 if the information is still valid, otherwise complete and submit a newDS160 (Don’t forget to upload a recent photo otherwise it won’t be accepted).
- Required Documents to be submitted. : Your international passport and two photocopies (With over 6months validity period, incase the previous passport with the visa has expired, attach the new passport). Two passport photographs (Us standard), MRV fee payment receipt (Gtb), Confirmation of Ds 160 application, Drop box eligibility confirmation, I-20 and 1-901 sevis fee receipt for academic applicants, must possess a valid I-797 for H visa , or I-29 for an L1 blanket visa.
- Drop off locations : Dhl offices in Victoria Island and Abuja provide free service. Other Dhl offices in Premium locations or other states such as , Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Akure, Benin,Enugu, Ibadan, Isolo e.t.c charge service fee(N2400 and above).
- Who can submit or collect documents : The applicant (On behalf of himself/herself or a family), representative of the applicant (With an authority letter and copy of an acceptable government issued id)
- Processing times: This range between 2 weeks to 2months. So plan your travel accordingly, note your passport won’t be available to you until a decision has been taken.
- Release : After collection of your passport documents, there are two possible outcomes. Its either you are given a visa or not. If the latter, you will be asked to schedule a regular interview , usually you might need to provide further documentation to assure the interview officer that you have strong ties to your country or just for administrative purposes.
