5 important COVID guidelines you must consider before traveling

The following are simple COVID testing guidelines to know before planning for your travel, they might seem simple but they can cause you to lose your flights.

  1. Age range: Some countries exempt infants and children from doing covid tests, you must also confirm the age ranges which are exempted ,as they differ from country to country (0-4, 0-12,0-15 years). However some countries request all passengers no matter the age to compulsorily do the COVID pcr tests before traveling.
  2. Validity : This refers to the time period the COVID test is valid for travel. Depending on the airline rules, point of departure , transit point and point of arrival , COVID test validity might is typically between 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours , 72 hours but not more than 96 hours from the day the test sample was taken. That is you start counting from the day you do the test and not from the day the result came out.
  3. Type of test: Different countries with their own rules and COVID test results acceptability. While some accept rapid antigen tests (results are usually available between 15minutes -2 hours) especially travel in between European countries , others require COVID pcr tests (results are usually available between 6 hours -24hours, max 48hours) this is the most on one required for most travelers departing Nigeria, but a few still require in addition a rapid Rt COVID test (results are usually available between 1 hour – 6hours) and can only be done in airports with rapid testing facility such as Airport trade centre in JKIA, Nairobi. For the COVID result to be accepted, it must have been done in laboratories approved by the government for travel purposes , otherwise the result will become useless and the money used in procuring such wasted. Also for a passenger to travel, he or she must test negative , otherwise he/she might be quarantined and asked to undergo isolation for a number of days , and retake the test before he/she can travel and also present a certificate of recovery.
  4. Nature of vaccine: There are different types of vaccines being given, Astravecneca, Moderna, Pfizer in one single or two doses. So if you must present your vaccination certificate , know which of the vaccines that is accepted in the destination country, if you must have completed single or both doses before traveling, how soon you can travel after taking the vaccine.

5: Vaccinated or unvaccinated traveler: For some countries, Different rules are applicable to passengers depending on whether they have been vaccinated or not. So know your category and be sure of what you need to do.

Finally, It is better to cross your “t”s and dot your “i”s by having the necessary COVID vaccinations and test results as you plan your travel. Do you know while same rules exist for a country, the implementation depends on the airline or location you are flying from or even the officer checking your documents. While passenger A may scale through by just having a perfunctory check performed on his documents and allowed to go, passenger B might not be so lucky, the officer might decide to not allow him board the flight if his papers are not totally correct.
Read all the COVID and health precautions of each airline, Each country has different set of rules for different nationalities, why for some their vaccination cards might suffice, citizens of other countries may be requested to have vaccination tests done in addition to their vaccine certificates. Verify your test results , Beware of touts/operators who want to sell fake test results to you, if required to printout the test results in hard copy, please do so except otherwise stated , not all airlines have the facilities or time to scan digital codes on your mobile phones. So save yourself stress or delay and just printout if you can.

One other thing I would like to state is that as opposed to trying to accommodate all your online degree lessons on times that you finish off work (as most people are drained when they return), try to receive most of your instructional classes on the weekends and only 1 or 2 courses on weekdays, even if it means taking some time away from your weekend break. This is fantastic because on the week-ends, you will be extra rested and also concentrated upon school work. Thanks a bunch for the different ideas I have realized from your site.
